When is Gear Wave launching?

What kind of gear can I rent?

Water sports, snow, camping, cycling, climbing, overland, fishing, lake & cabin, outdoor games, events & music, DIY tools, and more. If it's used for recreation outside, it probably fits.

How much does it cost?

Renters pay the owner's listed daily rate plus an 8% service fee. Owners keep 85% on the free Starter plan, 90% on Pro/Premium, and 92% as a Founding Owner — for life. Founding Owners also get 50% off Pro or Premium for their first 12 months.

How do payments work?

All payments run through the app via secure card processing. Owners are paid out automatically after each rental completes.

What if gear gets damaged?

Right now, every booking is protected by a refundable security deposit, ID-verified renters, and a signed rental agreement — if gear comes back damaged, owners file a claim and the deposit is applied. A full insurance-backed damage and theft protection plan is in the works and will roll out to waitlist members first.

Can I deliver gear instead of meeting up?

Yes. Owners can opt in to delivery, set a radius, and charge a small fee — popular for bulky gear like rooftop tents and paddle boards.

Do I need insurance to list?

No additional insurance needed for most categories. High-value items (boats, e-bikes) may require proof of ownership and an extra security hold.

Can I rent gear for my Airbnb or vacation rental?

Yes — Gear Wave is a great way to outfit a trip without packing or shipping. Search by your destination city and filter to delivery-enabled listings. Many owners will drop gear (paddle boards, kayaks, bikes, fire pits, coolers) directly at your Airbnb, hotel, or lake house at the start of your stay and pick it up at the end. Hosts can also list their on-site gear to earn extra income from guests.
